Like most of the worldwide Church, Methodists baptize children. If you would
like your baby or child baptized then the minister will visit you at home
to discuss this with you. We will visit to prepare you for the service. Sometimes
parents do not want their child to be baptized but would prefer to have a service
of thanksgiving and dedication instead. This is also available through conversation
with the minister.
The Church is licensed for the conduct of marriages and marriage blessings. Please ring to
arrange to meet the minister to discuss your marriage plans.
The church is also used for funerals which the minister is willing to take. Again a phone call
to the Church Office (020 7622 2552 or church@claphammethodist.org) or the Minister (020 7622
6018 or rob@thehuftons.com ) is all that is necessary .
Becoming a Church Member
Membership of the Methodist Church is open to all who love Jesus Christ and want to follow in his
way. Each year the Minister runs a course of ten or so informal meetings where we talk about what
it means to be a Christian today. We run one membership class for adults and another for young
people. During the programme we explore the four-fold calling of Methodists to worship - service -
evangelism - learning and caring. If you would like to find out more about what it means to be a
member of the Methodist Church, then click here
to fill out the form and we will post a free copy of a
helpful booklet called Called by Name. If you want to know when the next Church
Membership class is starting contact the Church Office. Entry into the church is by baptism and
then confirmation. Every year we hold a confirmation service in which people are received into
the membership of the Methodist Church.
Sometimes people move into the area as a member of another Methodist Church (in Britain or overseas)
or another Christian tradition (such as Church of England or Baptist or United Reformed Church) and
wish to become a member of Clapham Methodist Church. With permission, we are happy to transfer such
memberships to Clapham Methodist Church. Speak to the minister (020 7622 6018 or rob@thehuftons.com )
if you would like to think about doing that.
